Well It *WAS* a Nice Compliment

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 3, 2016, 7:44 PM
But be warned, fellow artists.

The website shopvida.com sent me an email last week, complimenting my art and inviting me to join, based on the furry work on my personal website.  I told them I was flattered, and asked what they offer that's different or better than other print-on-demand services, say better materials?  Which is what they repeated back to me in answer, along with telling me the other services were their competitors.  Like...no shit.

But still they did have a good list of affiliates, and some news sites/blogs had written articles on them (or printed PR statements more likely), so I decided to consider it.

And they bugged me about it two days later.  And then two days after that.  I told them the other sites didn't do this, along with pointing out that I was having health and software problems (their site requires files larger than PS 7.01 is capable of producing, and the file size expander apps/programs I've found won't do it without paying for the full program), and asked a couple questions about their requirement that I give them a photo of me and my signature, as well as a bio.  This email was apparently ignored.

Because I got another email yesterday, asking why I'd signed up but not uploaded anything.  So I asked if they had a timetable I was required to abide by that they hadn't bothered to tell me about, and that if they were expecting me to do what they want without telling me important things like that, we should part ways because they will be disappointed in me.  I also told them that I had been considering using their service for filesizing (they can download image files from an artists' website instead of having it uploaded the normal way, and fix it to where they can use it).

And did I mention that their most recent email had the subject line of 'Account on Hold'?  Yeah, just 10 days after the first nice email!

And then I checked the website again...and noticed the artists contract seems to have changed, to include wording about their rights to print items with my art being 'irrevocable'.  So I emailed them again and have asked for my account and contract to be cancelled.

And I'm really glad I held off uploading anything, including my photo and signature, and any info about my bank.

I'll let you know what they say.

Yeah, I'm Still Alive

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 2, 2016, 3:38 PM
Not quite on speaking terms with a couple of my family members, tho...and yes, the last entry is related to that.

Anyway, I was reading Flayrah this morning, and came across this lovely live action furry film and wanted to share it with all of you (if you haven't seen it yet).  Its actually pretty good despite the limitations of the costumes - kind of like how you've gotta overlook the limitations of Muppet costumes to enjoy the show.  The only thing I didn't like is that it feels like a first episode, and there are no more! :(

Art is Bad for My Health

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 12, 2015, 7:48 PM
...when I spend multiple hours hunched over my tablet making products on Zazzle and forgetting to suck down water and sit up straight every once in a while!  Messed with my blood pressure and gave me vertigo.

I feel better now after mass quantities of water and an extra half-dose of triphala.  So learn from my fail and try not to forget to drink while doing arty stuff!!

It was fun playing with a simple wreath, the one that is part of Frosty the Snowbot, making simple patterns for wrapping paper and other things.  They're most likely too late for this Christmas season, but they'll be there for next year!

I live near the border with Canada, which means I get some Canadian radio stations, yet I have never heard this song before.  Probably good thing, too, as I wouldn't be able to drive during it, just like with the nightingale song...

The Best Revenge

Journal Entry: Mon Nov 2, 2015, 9:09 PM
Is getting sales on CafePress' main competitor sites with the images I used to use on CafePress!   Someone bought a Stargazing Wolverine ornament on Zazzle. :D

I also found a new Epson Expression 520 all-in-one today on sale ($67.99), and it will be at my local Best Buy on Veterans Day.  I'd have bought it in store but they'd sold out by the time I got there.  The only thing I can think of that my partially broken Artisan 710 has over it is a larger scan bed...and more expensive, and just plain more, ink.  I mainly got it right now because, well, it was aboutr 50% off and I needed a new one, but also because I want to play with inkjet printed Shrinky Dinks, maybe make some Bishoujo Centaur charms or something. :D

Added Products to RedBubble

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 20, 2015, 4:41 PM
Spent much of today creating new products on RedBubble.

Included are a couple furry pics, an unedited Stargazing Wolverine photo, a cheesy photocomicky Transformers thing, and the ever popular Bishoujo Centaur Sailor Jupiter!

So...in other words, I got something art related done.

So Far, Profitable!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 19, 2015, 6:36 PM
I made another RedBubble sale, this time of a Frosty the Snowbot shirt! WOOT! :D  And my first two RB sales were faster than any I made on other sites!  Take that CafePress and Nuvango!

In other news, been trying to figure out my new dosages of blood pressure herbs, now that the CBD oil is working great.  Spent yesterday morning in the ER because my pulse dropped down too far.  The doc checked me for heart block (NOT  'blockage') and then asked me to ease up on the BP herbs, as that could be the problem.  Since I need the CBD oil for pain management as well as nerve healing, and the triphala for immune support (but I'm dropping the dosage down), and both lower BP, I've dropped the hawthorne berry entirely.  We'll see in the next couple days if it stabilizes.  But hey, may just be a new iteration of the TBI damage finally showing up...or something.

Well Nuvango, its been fun, but very much NOT profitable.

I have other sites to sell through instead of waiting while you figure out what kind of jerking you're going to do to artists.

So, I had a big loss of someone important to me yesterday, and if someone I barely know hadn't emailed me about it, I would have learned about it by reading it on a blog.  Aside from the anger at the person who should have notified me before putting it on the blog...I so far don't feel what I would think I would be by this point.

I'm mostly numb.

Art Show Redux

Journal Entry: Fri May 22, 2015, 11:23 PM
Spent the morning doing art intake for the Whatcom Art Guild Spring show.  I entered a canvas wrap photoprint of my late dog in the show, and the metal prints I entered in the show last fall in the Community sale area.  Like last year, it was a clusterfuck at times when other volunteers took it upon themselves to just jump in to 'help' and ignored my rather simple system - find artists' name on the alphabetical master list (and not on the extraneous one the showrunner foisted on me that was alphabetized by FIRST name - seriously, who thinks that's a useable list...), then their pre-made tags, verify which art is which and hand them and the tags over to the runner to take the pieces to the gallery area for hanging.

Hiccups came when artists came with different pieces than they'd registered, or extra pieces (such as artists who registered only one piece and brought 3), both of which required all new handwritten tags and listings on the master list, or when artists didn't understand that they weren't hanging their own work and tried to walk off with the tags, or when they sent someone else to hand in their pieces and didn't bother to tell that person which piece was which, resulting in delays while they ran back and forth to get the info.  Also had a few people bring their artwork in boxes, expecting to unpack it right there on my table, which only had room for my paperwork and for the already checked-in art that was awaiting the runner.  And then the gallery started running out of room because most of the pieces were big this year, and the person overseeing the hanging got frustrated with me because she approached to ask (by way of grabbing the remaining pre-filled tags) about how many pieces were still left to be checked in, at the same time as I and the runner were dealing with an artist who switched out 2 of her 3 pre-registered pieces for new ones (in new categories, too!) which of course meant new tags and master list entries *and* the rather rude husband of another artist who hadn't bothered to bring his wife's pieces to the table with him and expected immediate check-in service.

And then of course there were the older ladies who walked off and forgot their purses after giving me their art, which was kind of annoying because it meant I had to sit there with their stuff until they returned to get it, both because I was still doing my job and also didn't want the purses to get stolen.  Still, not as annoying as having one artist send his mom over to sign in while he sat ten feet away with his still-boxed pieces, which necessitated me leaning around his mom 3 times to tell him to get his pieces out of the box and his butt over in front of me.  3 frickin' times.

And all this was after getting up early, driving over to feed my parents' cats, then stopping at home for a short bit...and hearing a transformer blow in my building, which disabled one elevator and one series of electrical circuits - that happened to be the one my computer was on.  Plus the possibility of fire and need to evacuate my cat made me delay until I could be sure I wouldn't be leaving her in building flambe.

So of course I was tired by the time I got home again at noon.  Went back to the parents' and binge watched as much of both new TF shows as was on On Demand.  I like them about equally, tho the voice acting in Rescue Bots is better.  I figured out from watching RID on YouTube that the mouth movements are keyed to Chinese, so the dubbing is just really obvious to me in the English version.  I just kind of like the characters better in RID.
Shiny!

Is This My Head or Yours?

Journal Entry: Fri May 8, 2015, 8:51 PM
I'm sitting here thinking 'what else could I upload to Redbubble, etc'...and being tired, and kinda depressed about a few things, for no good reason other than I can probably blame it on hypothalamus dysfunction or something.  Or that and Zazzle really wore my brain out the other day.

One thing I want to upload needs to be scanned from a transparency that I swear I have around here...somewhere, somewhere of course, so I was going through things like old sales/business files, and finding out some things that I totally forgot about.  Like sending art to the first Albany Anthrocon and only later finding out I made a big sale (the only one I had go to auction even) since the final buyer was a friend and waiting...and waiting...and waiting until a letter finally arrived that detailed just what had happened to my money and that of all the other artists, along with a check that had had to be taken out of someone's personal account.  I didn't go to the con myself, had someone agent my art for me, or I might have heard about it earlier.  Nowadays that wouldn't be an issue, I'd have been knee deep in 'Where's my money!' troll-fighting.  But that was the late 90's.  And luckily not only did they pay the artists finally, but quickly learned from their fail and now have a pretty nice, and big, con.

I'd forgotten about it, tho.

I've also forgotten one of my other pieces that sold there, 'Morning Rainbow' - there's a note on the paperwork that says '(unicorn)' but other than that it might be a Mayan unicorn I did I have no damn idea what it was.  I didn't scan it, of course, and only have a scan of the inks of the Mayan unicorn it might be.

And oddly enough, I thought the original for Bishoujo Centaur Sailor Mercury sold with Jupiter and Moon, but no she's listed as selling at Confurence 9, which I just sent art to as well.  I did go to Confurence 8...the infamous CF8...and I did ride in The Elevator...and stayed away from the walls!  But I got to overhear Roz Gibson say 'Oh good, they put us by someone who doesn't suck!'...and yes, I overheard it 'cause I was just walking some art to my panels.  Next to hers. :D

WTF...

Journal Entry: Wed May 6, 2015, 9:32 PM
Just tried a few hours ago to upload a photo I've used on products called 'Stargazing Wolverine' to Society6.  And didn't get any further than the name before the website informed me that I'd added a word that could be copyrighted or trademarked.  WTF, Society6 - I just search on 'wolverine' and I get TONS of pop (aka fan) art of the Marvel character, and *I* get told *I* can't use the word for a picture of THE REAL ANIMAL.

WTF...

--Zhora

P.S - Yeah, I contacted their customer service/marketing department/whatever, and am waiting for an answer.  I'm just...boggled at the ridiculousness, and needed to vent.  I've not had any problem with using my wolverine photos on the other sites, even on CafePress, the profit thieves.

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 29, 2015, 6:21 PM

I'm sorry if my reorganizing just spammed the crap out of you! :(  I didn't know it would spam the crap out of my own profile page, either. :(

Also, I just made the worst green bean casserole ever...cold green beans and lots of raw onions that I'm still tasting. :P  I put it back in the oven for a while to see it that improves it.

UPDATE:
Longer cooking DID improve it...made it more edible.

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 16, 2015, 8:37 PM

Well, after a whole month of badgering, Fine Art America is finally coughing up a replacement canvas print...on the day I was supposed to send in the entry for the next WAG art show.  Ah well, I'll help at the show, but won't have anything to enter.  Not like I had the money for the entry anyway, or for acquiring other professional photography prints.

In the meantime, I signed up at Nuvango, because all-over printed shirts are awesome.

And then today I went through old sketches and scanned originals that needed scanning or rescanning...at least while my scanner is functional, because the printer side is kaput.  Expect to see lots more old crap from me in the next few weeks.

And I still didn't find the Mousebat Moon original.  At least I found some prints of the Bishoujo Centaurs, since the person who owns the originals with their color backgrounds hasn't apparently been that interested in scanning them for me whenever I've asked over the years.

Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 1, 2015, 8:39 PM

I'm worn out from two days of doctors appointments with Mamma Mia! in between, after a fairly busy weekend.

And then I really needed to print something, a written complaint about loose dogs in the garden area, aaaaand...something's gone a-brokey with the paper loading in my 6 year old Epson Artisan 710.  Fuuuuuck.  Repair?  Yeah right...it's old and was doing something weird on top of not loading paper to boot, so it would be more than the printer is worth. :(

Had to get the letter printed out at Kinko's (calling it 'FedEx Kinko's' or whatever just sounds stupid) for 13 cents apiece (I happened to have 26 cents at the time, so I got two).  I'll probably have to get any small prints done there until I can replace my Epson. Which will be...FuckifIknow in the month of Fuckitall, of the year Fuckyoupoorpersoninthisevilcapitalistempire. :(
